How to Mark a Doctor as Unavailable
When an individual doctor is taking leave, travelling for a medical conference, or dealing with an emergency, you can mark them as unavailable for specific dates. The clinic remains open and other doctors continue consulting normally.
Doctor-Level vs Facility-Level Availability
DialDoctor enforces a clear availability hierarchy so that an individual doctor's absence never halts operations for the entire clinic:
DialDoctor Availability Evaluation Order
1. Clinic Closed?
If facility is closed, all doctors blocked.
2. Doctor Unavailable?
If doctor has an exception date, that doctor is blocked.
3. Normal Weekly Shift
Doctor's routine working hours are checked.
4. Booked Appointments
Existing patient slots are excluded.
5. Available Slots
Remaining slots are displayed for booking.
How to Add Doctor Unavailable Dates
- 1Navigate to the "Doctors" tab in your Clinic/Hospital Workspace.
- 2Find the doctor in the list and click "Unavailable Dates".
- 3In the modal, click "+ Add Unavailable Date".
- 4Select Single Date or Date Range.
- 5Select your date(s) and choose a reason chip: Leave, Emergency, Personal, Conference, or Other.
- 6Click "Save Unavailable Date".

QDoes doctor unavailability at Clinic A affect Clinic B?
No. Unavailable dates are strictly scoped to the facility where they are registered. The doctor's practice at other hospitals or clinics remains unaffected.
QCan staff see why a doctor has no slots?
Yes. The reception booking modal and dashboard show a clear badge explaining whether the facility is closed or the doctor is on leave.
QHow do I remove an unavailable date?
Open the doctor's "Unavailable Dates" modal and click the remove icon next to the date entry. Normal booking resumes immediately.
